Desert Grace, also from the Desert Life series, started out as most floral paintings do, with a photo shoot. A photo shoot with cactus flowers is somewhat of a double edged sword. I look forward to the spring when the cactus are blooming so I can get out with my camera although I often come home covered in stickers and this barrel cactus was no different. The upside, is the pulp from the barrel makes great candy :)
Painting this flower was a bit of a challenge. The petals are mostly transparent and so each petal has about 10 layers of transparent paint on them.
